Summary
Soulmarks were special.
Movies liked to romanticize them, sure, but they were more than a mark. They were a symbol of a lifelong bond, of a closeness that many yearned to achieve. Married couples showed them off more than wedding rings if a pair of matching marks appeared, gloating to all that would listen.
The marks were sometimes identical, but other times matching as a pair. It would be something meaningful to the pair, typically, something that brought joy.
Mike and Will had their first matching ones appear when they were 6 years old.

Summary
Sometimes, all he can think about is how he’ll kill himself.
“Will! Will, come on- come on, wake up-”
His lungs shudder as he breathes in, hands gripping his face, his shoulders, alternating wherever they could.
“That’s it- that’s it, come on, come back to me-”
He feels dizzy, out of it, the way he always did. He’s pulled into a chest, a heartbeat he could spend forever memorizing, and tries to get his bearings.
Or, Will is going through some shit. He knows a way to get out of it, but... no one seems content to let that happen.

Summary
The way Mike cares for him even after having known him for such a short time period scares Will. Not that he’s afraid of Mike’s care–no, he would never be afraid of that–but he’s afraid of what could happen if he gets too close, too attached. However as Mike smiles at him, his messy hair falling into his face, he decides that maybe getting close to Mike would be the best mistake he’s ever made.
Will smiles back, and it feels genuine—like a smile he isn’t forcing as a response, but a smile that genuinely shows how he feels. He isn’t very okay right now, but he will be.
