He knows Clementine’s pretty. That’s just a fact, right? She has those big amber eyes, accentuated by long lashes and her eyebrows are weirdly perfect. (Turns out, when you get that close to someone you notice a lot about their face.) But Mitch can’t lose his mind over every pretty new girl that shows up here, especially with the raiders about to attack. He’d be no better than Ruby wanting to waste time burying Ms. Martin. It’s what Louis did anyway, and that backfired on him massively.
Clementine’s just like him, smart, no-nonsense, practical. Therefore if she knew Mitch was wasting his time thinking about something as stupid as her face, she’d probably tell him to get over it.

“I’m Elín,” El said and there was the note of stubbornness she’d always carried in her, still so present. “Please,” she said. “Please, Mike.”
Mike let out a laugh that grated on his ears, “Finally. I thought you’d forgotten my name.”
El’s brows furrowed, lips twisting, “You think I’d ever forget your name? Forget you?”
“Did you not?” Mike asked with a pained smile.
Egged on by his editor, Mike embarks on a journey to the remote town of East Iceland, Seyðisfjörður, to recuperate and perhaps, find something inspiring to write about. What he finds there instead is the love of his life, once presumed dead, now real before his eyes, and a community that offers him the space to heal without handing him the cure.
Maybe his life still has capacity for the adventure and wonder that he’d once thought he’d lost forever.

Mortals will see a still body and hear the silence of a battlefield and declare the war ended. Foolish, they gather their dead and wounded and depart in hushed voices to plan for the future, a resounding victory cry on their lips. They take days, then months, then years to celebrate, to heal, to recover. They grieve, then rejoice in the victory, take comfort in knowing it's over.
Really, they could not be more predictable.

They’re sitting on her bed, playing Slap Jack. She’s unfairly good at it; apparently Hopper taught her the rules a while ago. Mike watches her eyes flash under the overhead light, her cheeks flush with laughter, her hand tangle with his in an attempt to grab a card out from under him. There’s something enormous swelling in his chest, something he doesn’t have any of the words for, and he knows that he needs to tell her now or he’ll never get the guts to again.
“I think I might like guys.”

The world doesn’t end with a bang or a whimper, it ends with a black ballpoint pen scribbling on smooth white paper. She smiles up at you from her side of the table. You’re not entirely sure how you could go from loving someone so entirely to this. “I’ll try and send pictures,” Susan says, with warmth and sincerity in her voice. You know her well enough to tell that she believes herself when she says it. Maybe this time you really will get your two or three polaroids. Then she’ll either forget or realize what a waste of time it is to send scraps halfway around the world to the dog you kicked and starved.

Sawyer doesn’t think about Jack’s mouth turning down in disgust in the morning, as he has his first cigarette of the day. He doesn’t think about it in the afternoon, lying under a tarp and sweating like a pig. He doesn’t think about it in the evening as he watches the sunset spread like a stain across the open ocean. He especially doesn’t think about it at night as he feeds log after log into the signal fire.
