“Tell me what you saw,” he said.
She swallowed. The heat in her blood was climbing, insistent. Every brush of his fingers felt like kindling.
“The same thread,” she whispered. “You. Me. Here. Like… like before.”
His thumb paused against her temple.
“And now?” he asked softly. “Is it still improbable?”
Her laugh came out shaky, almost broken. “The probability is… rising. Rapidly.”
Jing Yuan exhaled slowly, like a man letting go of a very old leash.
“Then perhaps,” he murmured, leaning closer until their breaths mingled, “we should stop fighting the numbers.”

Summary
General Jing Yuan was old, even by long-life species standards. With time comes experience, and he had gone through enough ordeals to fill several lifetimes, even among his peers. Few can claim as many achievements as he did, or pretend to know as much as him. The wise, powerful Seat of Divine Foresight, the very picture of a wise guardian.
That same guardian was scrambling to find his communicator through his robes, his cheeks marked by eyebags and his hair comparable to the fur of a wet stray cat.
With his hands finally on the device, he tapped it and put it to his ear, before speaking out in a barely composed voice:
“Yukong, how does one change a diaper?”
Many have asked how in Lan’s name would the General himself take in an unknown infant under his wing. He refused to answer, and would continue to do so in the future.Bookmarked by chimericalrai
