Ava was going to die, right here, in the middle of her kitchen during a Christmas party. She only hoped that they could get Beatrice as a guest speaker for the funeral, so everyone else could have the wonderful experience of death by hearing Beatrice talking.

Beatrice gasps at the admission, silent enough to have been an atypically sharp intake of air. She thinks about the choice of word stressed in Ava’s last sentence and how all three would come with different implications, and Ava has chosen the one that places the importance on her.

"Huh?" There's a pause, and he can almost see Ava's brain stutter into stillness before lurching back to life. "Well, um, Diego, it's like — I'm really — if I thought that — see, it’s more like —"
He hears Lilith scoff and turns towards her. "It's not that hard. Kid, Ava's down bad for —"
"Shut up, Lilith," Ava grinds out, cutting her off.

“Have we?” Ava asked, not teasing, just genuinely curious.
“Not here,” she clarified, the words coming out without any conscious choice. “Another life. Another time.”
Ava’s eyes crinkled as she smiled, a small, warm, familiar thing. “I see,” was all she said, but Beatrice intrinsically knew that Ava believed her. That she trusted her. “Then I hope we meet again, in our next lives.”

“This is where we train,” Camila stated, hands on her hips as she looked over everyone. “We don’t get attacked by monsters very much - especially not when we’re at camp - but it’s always good to be prepared. Sometimes, like today, we’re sent on quests.”
Her words went in one ear and out the other as Ava found her gaze drawn to a girl a few feet away, in the midst of a hand-to-hand sparring session with a male camper. She was, to put it nicely, absolutely annihilating him. Her movements were fluid, beautiful, as if she were performing a dance.
Camila noticed Ava’s distracted gaze, a smile pulling on her lips. “That’s Beatrice,” she stated, and Ava watched as said woman delivered a harsh blow to her opponent’s stomach, causing them to double over. “She and Lilith have been here the longest out of all of us - around nine years, maybe? She’s Athena’s daughter.”

A vicar just walked into her bar, it’s like the start of a joke. She sits on one of the stools and looks to you in expectation, a hot vicar walked into your bar.
“What can I get for you, Father?”
She doesn’t look too impressed at the joke.
