“Good morning, Sleeping Beauty,” Dustin snarks. He rolls his eyes and heaves himself out of the passenger side of the bimmer, slamming the door behind him. He sticks his head through the passenger window, offering Steve a sarcastic sneer. “Have a good nap?”
Steve smacks his lips and swallows hard, but the odd metallic taste doesn’t leave his mouth. Dustin huffs at his lack of response and smacks the flat of his palm against the side of the car. Usually, Steve would reprimand him for that, tell the kid something about the paint job, or dents, but Dustin storms out of Steve’s sight before he can catch up to the situation. Steve’s slumped over the steering wheel, letting it press into the side of his face and his ribs, a radiating ache, but he knows the moment he moves, the pain will flare into something sharp and unbearable.

Something smells like it's burning, but not the popcorn. It’s like… rubber? A burning tire maybe? But that’s not quite right either. There’s a hint of hand sanitizer underneath that smokey scent. Among the confusion two more things happen to Steve. He feels like his stomach is rising, not sinking, it feels like he’s dropping off the highest crest of the Indiana state fair’s shittiest rollercoaster. And suddenly his head feels fuzzy which bleeds slowly into an uncomfortable pressure in his skull. And Steve’s not so confused anymore. He’s just scared.

My stobin itch was not satisfied during season 5 so I repurposed my steddie fic and improved it. I could be convinced to make the steddie version updated too.
