Summary
It's clear that the person doesn't have intel; he doesn't know why the hell Ivan's still going at it. Unnerving to see it play on his face, an expression Till used to wear once broken to his core components, as Ivan's hands follow a routine down a stranger’s frame.

Summary
His father is aghast at the new rasp in his voice. At his first evaluation after the surgical suite, they rear up so viciously at the sound that for a moment, he expects to be struck. It's a novel thought — that's just not their style. The worst parts of his life, now knotted together. The rotten parts still there, only jumbled. Faulty reassembly.
Or: this is not a story about a phoenix.

Bookmarker's Notes
“Wicked boy,” rasps Armand, and yeah, he likes that. “You would tempt the devil himself.”
“Not bad for a guy who was puking in a bag twenty minutes ago.”
He smirks, wondering if he's spoiled the mood, but Armand is still wearing that eerie, half-present expression.

Bookmarker's Notes
Armand feels something shift, a hidden cache of vermin within him cringing away from a bright electric light, tumbling over one another in search of a dark crevice in which to hide. He stares at the glass tabletop for a long moment.

Summary
A conversation in a bar brings Daniel and Armand closer together and reveals that they might have more in common than Armand ever let on.
Or: My take on a possible origin of the Cuck Chair in the show verse.

Bookmarker's Notes
Something is very wrong here. Armand is still looking at him with mild impatience, like he’s holding up the line at a deli counter. It occurs to Daniel that maybe he doesn’t understand why what he’s asking for is so fucked-up.

Summary
Daniel never compared him to a Botticelli angel or a Bernini cherub, never called him a demon or an imp. Such images scarcely existed within that wonderfully secular modern brain of his. Daniel was entirely a creature of the flesh.

Bookmarker's Notes
How many times in mortal life had Armand found himself in Daniel’s exact pose under a red velvet counterpane, bare and wanting? He tried to recall the delicious frustration he’d felt then, but it was very far away. Much closer was the scent of hot human blood beneath the familiar haze of Marlboros and bourbon.
