"You're the one acting ridiculous here!" Will looks deep into his eyes, as if he's wants his next words to mean more. To mean everything. "It's not my fault you don't love her!"
"Yes it is!" Mike shouts, raising his voice in a way he never does around Will. "Yes, yes it fucking is!"

Mike's avoiding Will. He got a part-time job at Scoops Ahoy, and he's struggling to hide his feelings for Will. When he calls him out during a thunderstorm, Mike can't hide how he truly feels anymore.

Summary
It starts with a Hellfire shirt. Mike doesn't know if it's cursed or blessed because wearing it always makes Will act strangely. Then, it's spiraling into a hope Mike didn't know he could have. Will has never been closer, but Mike still isn't sure he can have what he wants. Or can he?

Mike knows this is a bad idea. Knows he’ll be red the whole time and stutter and give himself away, but this is Will. Will with his hands in his hair, so close Mike can stare all he wants. Fantasize about what a kiss might be like. Hidden away in the safety of what should’ve been their bedroom. Maybe he can use today to convince Will it can be.
“Only if you make me look good.”
Will stands with a sweet smile. “Easiest job in the world then.” And then he disappears into the hallway before Mike can even start to stumble in front of him.

"I just don't understand the hype." Mike didn't even look up from his notebook.
"For Valentine's Day?" Max always had a sharp voice, Mike pretended to ignore her, cutting straight to the issue. "You're such a liar. Come on, you're just annoyed you don't have a girlfriend."
Dustin, a traitor that he is, piped in for the first time in the last 15 minutes. "He wasn't even that into it when he had a girlfriend, though? This isn't surprising."
"It's boring. It's boring."
Dustin hummed. "So boring you had to order flowers?"

Will dropped his head into his hands. “Mike, oh my god—”
Paladin Mike’s jaw tightened. “I do not own him,” he said immediately. “He is—” He stopped, swallowing. His eyes went back to Will softening, and that softness made Mike hate him even more. He could recognize the look, and saw it mirrored in his own eyes countless times.

“He is the Light. By your oath, I am bound to him. My liege.” He bowed his head slightly toward Will, his mouth wrapped around the word like it was a prayer. “My cleric.” He said after, softer.
“Oh my god.” Will flushed, impossibly. “That is crazy. He is actually crazy."
Max, who had been standing with her arms crossed behind them, muttered, “Jesus Christ,” under her breath.
Mike Wheeler is going to explode, because there is an alternate, armoured version of him, following Will Byers around like he belonged to him.
