Percy had been sent to his doom as a last resort to try and lure Vax back inside. His reluctance to get help from a group of people he'd come to detest had lead him in agony, and for some inexplicable reason their family thought Percy - exactly the type of alpha Vax hated - was the best person to help him.
Instead of ordering Vax to obey, he did the opposite: he surrendered, he submitted, and he proved that he was different. He convinced Vax that mindless rutting was not necessary, that just a touch would do. If Vax turned feral on him, well, that was not his fault.

You're going home. You can hardly believe it. There will be work, of course, but you get to work, you get to fix your world, you saw them, the lights of the Zernai, and now you are going home.
You've decided to take the long way, though. Maxwell is still a little injured.
He's coming with you. He- He had asked to come with you, sent Wealwell and Samwell back to Gath to handle the fallout, and then he'd gripped your golden heart in his hands and asked if you would let him accompany you home. He wished to see the world that made you, the people you belonged to, to provide… companionship.
Currently, he is sitting cross legged in bed, his gaze directed over to you. You realise, not for the first time, that he is beautiful, even now with his eye blacked and his lip split, slow healing.
“You can stretch your legs, you know,” he says, after minutes of silence. “You don't have to sit here and watch me.”
“I enjoy it,” you say, almost lacking fear. “I- I still count myself incredibly lucky to have you here.” It's an easy truth to admit, a test of your self-trust. It has been easier to trust your heart, lately, to take these leaps of faith. He has made it easier.

Torse has dimmed the light of his eyes, but they still cast a small glow on the dim area. Maxwell stands at a distance, and Torse—for the first time—seems a manageable size. From here, he’s not the colossal warrior Maxwell is used to standing beside. He’s just a man. A clockwork man, but a man just the same. Torse leans against the canyon wall, favoring one leg over the other. One leg looks to be looser, putting him off-balance. A warm breeze rolls along the floor of the canyon.
Torse has no trouble staring at him now.
Maxwell doesn’t decide to walk towards Torse, but his legs do. He never noticed this gravity that compels him toward Torse, but it doesn’t feel new; just realized.
Maxwell approaches, but stops short a few feet. They stand wordless, a small distance away from the mouth of the cave. Maxwell’s hands form fists.
“I am not your enemy,” Torse says.
“Oh really?” Maxwell says with a venom he didn’t intend. Clearly, punching patches of canyon wall for hours did nothing to release his temper.
Torse seems different, like he’s apprehensive of Maxwell. It’s unprecedented.

Bucky flexes his hand impulsively, earning an angry look from Steve until he manages to get his fingers back in the places they were before. There’s some bossy nudging involved. Steve’s charcoal fingerprints are left behind. Bucky doesn’t entirely mind them. It makes him feel loved, a little. It makes him feel like someone who actually deserves to be loved.
He doesn’t pretend to not understand Steve’s question.
“I don’t know,” he admits, his voice hoarse.
“I think it’d be nice, if he did.” Steve manages to say the words like they don’t matter, his focus back on his drawing, pencil moving crisply across the paper. “But whatever this thing is that you guys have, I think that’s nice too.”
“Yeah,” Bucky says, glad Steve isn’t looking at him anymore as a ridiculously stupid smile takes over his face. “I think it’s nice, too.”

Peter pushes Bucky away.
Except “pushes” might not be the right word. “Shoves” is too polite. “Yeets” feels closer, but “catapults” is probably the most accurate. He uses just a little too much strength, and Bucky goes flying. Very flying. Horizontally too. Feet off the ground, airborne, and lands back-first into the murder clown that’s still skittering around.
There’s a sickening thud, followed by the sound of Bucky grunting, and Peter—who is two seconds away from dying of a possible heart attack, there it is—webs the fuck out of there. To the voice of Bucky screaming into the comms, “What the hell, Queens?!” some nasty cackling in a background, and a single gunshot.
In which Sam knows best (don’t tell him, he’ll never shut up about it), Bucky flirts like a malfunctioning toaster on its last spark, everyone and their nosy grandmother refuse to mind their own business, and, yes, at least one clown gets what’s coming to it.
