Wei Ying has left a hickey on his neck. To any other eye, it will look like a bruise from a fight, but he knows how it got there. He brushes his fingers over it quietly, and thinks, if this is the only way I can keep him with me, I would let him mark me up like a child with a paintbrush and an entire blank wall. If he were in the business of taking people, like so many in our world are, I would let him take me, and I would let him keep me.

Lan Zhan [//Hanguang-jun] isn't one of the best agents in the world for nothing. He would be the best, perhaps, were it not the infuriating and annoyingly hot enigmatic rogue agent [//The Yiling Laozu] who is determined to fight him at every chance they get. And maybe not-fight him too, if one of them remembers the lube. It’s a never-ending dance to crown the victor of their adrenaline-fuelled rivalry.

Lan Zhan turns to see a young man in a ball cap, a black t-shirt and straight-cut blue jeans hurrying down the dock. He’s long and lanky, and his eyes under the brim of his hat are bright. His skin is tanned but his features are fine, smooth, his mouth generous. He’s got a clipboard in his hand. “Lan Zhan, is that right?”
His name rolls perfectly off this man’s tongue, smooth as if it were in Mandarin. He nods. “Cool. I’m Wei Ying – I’m your pilot and guide for this trip.”

Summary
Lan Wangji arrives at Nevernight Manor expecting a quick exorcism, but his host is startlingly uncooperative. There's seemingly no ghost or monster to be found -- whatever Wen Ruohan's elderly stepmother says -- but he's subjected to nightly parties and jazz music. Worse, the irreverent gardener, Wei Wuxian, is far too handsome for Lan Wangji's good, but he can't stay away, even as he becomes increasingly convinced that the glittering façade is not what it seems.
And something isn't quite right with Wei Wuxian himself.

Summary
Second year of uni is going great for Wei Ying! Okay, so maybe there’s a growing patch of mould on his ceiling, and perhaps Madam Yu keeps threatening to kick him out of orchestra, but aside from that it’s going fine. The rest of the woodwind section is a bit of a nightmare, but that’s easy to ignore when he spends most of his time in rehearsals trying to catch Lan Zhan’s eye from across the room.
For friend reasons. They’re going to be great friends.
If only he could figure out why his heart keeps doing strange things whenever he manages to hang out with Lan Zhan. And why Huaisang seems to understand Wei Ying more than Wei Ying does himself. And why one of his professors seems to hate all his bold ideas to revolutionise musical composition. And –
Okay, perhaps it isn’t going so great. But there’s still time – and plenty of orchestra rehearsals before the end of the year – to figure it all out.
