There is something that feels small, like her —a tinge of stress and tightness that is not her own — comes from there often—but also love, a holding as her mama does for her. Warmth she leans into.
There is something big, and empty, that Ellen shies away from, that occasionally makes her heart stutter, makes her burst into tears in the night. It frightens her mama. She pushes it aside, looks away from it, if she doesn’t acknowledge it, it is not there.

Summary
The sarcophagus was gone when they returned to Grünewald. The charred corpse of Herr Knock laid exposed and discarded in its place.
No sign of Orlok or Ellen was found.
He is still uncertain if it is despair or relief he's felt since the discovery. All he knows is this: that Orlok lives and so, too, must Ellen — in some way, some manner — and that Professor Franz and Dr. Sievers would murder her the same as the count. A sort of madness sinks its teeth in him as he faces this understanding, and Thomas is aware, distantly, that his thoughts turn ever more monstrous.

Summary
A crash. Then quick foot steps down the stairs. A man similar to the ones from her home, but quite pretty. Curly brown hair, blue eyes. Dressed in a white undershirt and trousers. He had stopped in front of her monster, giving a slight bow. There were a few bite marks scattered on him. She kind of wanted to add some more.
“You’re back,” he’d said.
Then he saw her, staring at him. He backed away slightly, behind her monster. Oh. Her fangs were out. She must have looked like she was about to devour him whole.
Or Thomas and Ellen meet in a much different way than in canon.
