“I hate you,” Husk said, and he was sure it would’ve been convincing if not for the purring deep in his chest, vibrating right beneath Angel’s hand.
“Of course ya do, baby.” He reached his other hand up to pet Husk between the ears. “Of course ya do.”
And Husk let it happen. He could fight Angel as much as he wanted, but they both knew what he was in the end. Soft, that is, and a hedonist deep down, and sensitive in all the right ways, and Angel’s alone. His face was bright red, glowing with the attention, the genuine, melting affection Angel gave out so freely when all either of them had ever known was spitting contempt. They played this game, the two of them, the push and pull, so that it didn’t feel so foreign. If Husk pretended Angel was pushing it on him, he wouldn’t need to confront the fact that he wanted it. If Angel pretended he didn’t know damn well that Husk was putty in his hands, he wouldn’t need to confront the fact that his work had put him in a role that he’d long outgrown, and that he might like to show his love actively instead of having it taken from him.
