They panted in each other’s faces for a second, and then John let out a low growl and butted his forehead up against Harry’s. “You’re a menace, Harry Potter.”

“He’s too good for this world, eh?” John said. Sirius glanced at the fae, embarrassed by how shaky he was after Harry's kind, sleep assurance.
“Yes,” he managed to say, gently stroking Harry's scar. "And he doesn’t deserve this.”
John closed his eyes, tucking his chin over his paws. “They never do.”

Maybe he is a boy-hero, he thought, reflecting on the mystery that was Harry Potter. Maybe there's something special about him after all.
these out of all the many equally brilliant sections were the ones to give me the most visceral flashbacks to hiccup the third. absolutely incredible piece of fiction.

Michiko rethinks what traditional means. She thinks of every overhead conversation, every deliberately chosen word, every syllable purposefully left out or reframed. The way sometimes her mama talks about Uncle Hiro in the past tense when he’s right there, smiling, just never alone.
Michiko learns that love is not a choice, nor is it unconditionally given, and she wonders how something that has always been a part of her life could be so terribly cruel.
