The droning voice of the newsreader continued to buzz in Ben's ears as he struggled to register what he had just heard. He turned to see Klaus close and open his mouth again, faltering for a moment, before their gazes met.
"Well, here's hoping the old man's funeral won't be as terrible as mine," Klaus said, his joke falling entirely flat. His eyes were wide and disbelieving, and Ben nodded dazedly in a rare moment of agreement with his sibling.
His sibling, who has been dead for almost thirteen years.

Ben was quite a simple ghost. He sees a girl he likes - he follows. The second Jill appeared in the doorway of Klaus’ room, with a young man who Ben will later recognise as Klaus’ crush from Vietnam, the inside-of-body experience he’d had not a minute before almost slipped his mind. Their quality time together was interrupted, however, by said young man storming off the mansion's grounds, his face flushed and wet with tears.
“This better be worth it,” Ben muttered now, stalking back to his brother. Klaus had some explaining to do.

The only thing that had kept Trinity pushing through the inevitable slump that comes at the end of every shift was the knowledge that in an hour or so she would get to go home, shower, and watch The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives with Whitaker, as had been their routine for the last few weeks since he moved in.
They fit into each other’s lives almost seamlessly. When they argued it was never serious, they quickly learned each other’s tells and ticks without having to say anything out loud, they watched shitty tv and gossiped together, he cooked for her and she packed their lunches–it had quickly become nauseatingly domestic.
Which is to say, whenever they were together they were practically joined at the hip.
So it was incredibly odd that when it was finally time to go home, Whitaker was nowhere to be seen.
