Yoonchae blinked, the silver-and-brown wrapper of her Crunchwrap Supreme suddenly impossible to look away from. She worried the edge between her fingers, folding and unfolding it, listening to the faint crinkle like it might answer for her. The car’s interior light was dim, barely on, but Megan’s gaze held her anyway—steady, unflinching.
“I…” Yoonchae swallowed. Her throat felt too small for the words. “Yeah. Basically.”

“You’re hot, Yoonchae,” Megan says, the words tumbling out too fast, before she can snatch them back and swallow them into the dark.
Yoonchae’s gaze lands on her then, really lands—eyes hooded, lined with smoky perfection, catching the dim light like it belongs only to her. Her cheeks are flushed, lips glossy and untouchably smooth, and Megan feels that sharp, foolish urge to ruin it, just a little.
She leans down, hands braced on either side of Megan’s head. Megan hiccups a shaky breath, chest fluttering like a trapped bird. Her inhale trembles, shudders, then stills, only to shudder again. She’s caught in the space between panic and something warm, starting to burn. She feels it in her chest, swears its the alcohol, like after you drink too much whiskey and everything’s warm and fuzzy and—
“I know,” Yoonchae murmurs, right by her ear.
And then she’s leaning down, closing the space between them.

Megan takes a sip of her drink, humming into Yoonchae’s ear. “I think you’re missing an article. You know, like, ‘the.’”
Yoonchae finally turns to look at her, reflexively quoting their lyric: “You know, like, the boba tea?”
And Megan backs up just enough to wink and take another sip and Yoonchae wants to taste. You know, like. To prevent some of that sugar from entering a body already too sweet for its own good, or something.
“Exactly,” Megan beams.
Or: Yoonchae wants to kiss Megan and crashes out in two languages.

“She is,” Jules replied, brushing the back of her knuckles along the side of Mika’s face. “What do you need?”
Mika closed her eyes and reached for Jules’ hand, capturing it in her own and pressing it deeply into her cheek, as if imprinting the feel of Jules permanently into her skin.
“For you to say? At least for a little bit?” she asked, opening her eyes.
Jules’ soft smile broadened, and she reached quickly for her phone to check the time.
“Yeah. I can stay.”

She and Mika said they are going to be friends. There’s been some vague discussions of ‘somewhere down the line’, which, she’ll admit, is something that makes her feel very excited, but for now, friends. She knows she’s not ready for anything more than that, not yet. Hence the compartmentalizing.
She can do that. She can set aside any lingering romantic or sexual feelings she has for Mika and focus on just being friends. Besides, Mika might not end up moving to Chicago. This could all be a non-issue, really.
