Summary

Summary
The Wizard King’s reputation preceded him wherever he went, wherever the roaming form of his impossible moving castle carried him. His was a reputation drenched in blood and carnality, in licentious desires and grisly ends. A reputation of dangerous beauty, intoxicating charm; of a smile sharp when it grinned into the bright young faces of hapless townspeople, and sharper still when it sank into their chests to taste their beating hearts.
A chilling little story, to be sure, and a concerning one to have slunk its way to their doorstep, but Edwin wasn’t overly worried about it.
After all, the Wizard King only ate the hearts of the pretty ones.
He was Edwin Payne of Payne & Sons Bespoke Tailoring; he was always and only of Payne & Sons. Such was his station in life, a role he himself was tailor-made for. A role he fit like a drab but finely-crafted glove. And so it went—until the day a wizard and a witch conspired to turn his tidy little life upside down.

Summary
“One hour,” he complained regardless, already counting the seconds as he barreled across the bay to where their turnout gear hung from heavy hooks on the far wall of the station. Charles dressed quickly, yanking on his thick yellow trousers with rough, jerky motions that matched his souring mood. “One bloody hour, and the universe couldn’t do me a solid. Edwin’s gonna get home before me now, and I promised him that I would—”
“For fucks sake, Rowland,” Crystal groaned, kicking her feet into a pair of heavy leather boots. She swept her fingers through her hair, pulling the reddish curls into a quick, messy bun that she hid beneath her helmet. “If I have to hear about yours and Edwin’s anniversary one more time, I’m going to vomit. It’s been a month, dude. The honeymoon phase should be over by now.”

Summary
“For someone who claims not to like thinking,” Edwin says, raising an eyebrow, “you do a remarkably good job of it.”
Charles laughs. “Tell that to my old teachers, mate.”
“If they disagree, then they can’t be very qualified.” Edwin says this simply, like it’s just a fact of life. Like it’s plainly obvious that if anyone thinks Charles is stupid, it’s they who are at fault.
Or: Charles grew up poor and is likely to stay that away, his job at the magic store notwithstanding. By the time he meets Edwin, he's decided that he wants a new life. In between figuring out what's up with the mysterious wish-granting pigeons, and whether he can go to the Royal Ball, Edwin makes him want to take a chance on being happy as well.

Summary
Charles Rowland never expected to see Crystal Palace again, especially not after their fallout over her abusive ex boyfriend. Their meeting brings them to the doors of the Tea and Kettle, an unassuming little coffee shop well out of Charles’s usual commute to and from Uni. However, inside he doesn’t only reconnect with Crystal, he meets Edwin. Who then saves his life, as his past reappears once again for one last hurrah. Now, Charles has a best friend for life…one whose eyes won’t leave his head.
