    Summary

There is no safety in Morgana's arms. Morgana makes her angry, and afraid beyond that, because Gwen thinks of Morgana with her unrelenting, cruel righteousness and feels something stirring in the space beneath her ribs, an echo of the fury she has buried since she came of age. She thinks of Morgana, and her tongue breaks, and her skin feels too tight and too small to contain her.

It is Ygraine who asks Nimueh to help her conceive a child born of magic, and though she knows what will come to pass, Nimueh is powerless before Ygraine's desires.

Decades later, that same child rules over a Camelot haunted by its past. The kingdom is besieged from without by a powerful Morgana seeking justice, and from within by its own broken laws. Gwen and Merlin stand at Arthur's side in his bitter war against his sister, but as their secrets come to light, Gwen must grapple with her gravitation towards the woman she once served. In the face of the slow dissolution of her world, Gwen finds herself confronting what she has long tried to bury in the name of loyalty: the power of grief, the force of anger, the weight of women's love and women's hunger.

    Summary

Merlin felt them – a weighted, clattering presence – mere moments before Gwaine's soft curse coloured the air. Three bones, increasing in size, hung from a branch, knocked softly against each other: gruesome tokens strung up as toys for the soft breeze. Nor were they the only ones. Every few paces, there were more, nestled in trunk hollows or strung in strange shapes. They picked out a path ever deeper, where the trees grew tall and thick and old, indifferent to the fleeting, human lives that crept beneath their bower.

When Merlin and the others stumble across a grim discovery, it falls to Merlin to set things right. Can he undo the dark magic wrought upon this place, or will the price of the attempt be more than he can possibly afford to pay?

    Summary

Merlin finds Morgana's ghost one year after Camlann and the death of Arthur.

He sucks on the inside of his cheek, jaw clenching painfully. “I hate to speak ill of the dead, Morgana, but you’re a bitch.”

Her high pitched laughter follows him down the trail, not disturbing the squirrels or the little birds or even shaking the branches she pushes through. She is a solitary vacuum of nothing, a patch of shadow even the sun isn’t bright enough to violate. She is untouchable, immovable, an eternity at his side.

Between the crooked trees of the valley he picks through the brambles, so different in the bright noon sun. She grows quiet, grim and ghastly in the deep shadows, her hair writhing like snakes, pale hands smoothing over the ripped lace of her skirts like a child worrying at a favourite toy. He wonders why he’s doing this, burying the woman who walks beside him. (That morning it had been out of — of pity, guilt. He doesn’t know.) He thinks perhaps that a tiny, somehow still hopeful, part of him believes that if he puts her to rest she will sink back into her grave in the twisted thorns.

    Summary

When he was seven, he found an injured squirrel near the road. It had been hit by a wagon, its foot squished and bloodied, but for some reason it hadn’t run away, and it stayed put even after Merlin approached. A twitching lump stuck in the ground, he knew he shouldn’t touch it, but it was just in so much pain. He could tell. And he could fix that. He’d curled up next to it, placing his hand above its injuries. His tricks were rarely something he used purposefully. They just happened, despite how hard he tried to prevent them. But this creature was small and harmless, and he stared at it and let his want, his base instinct to help, flow through him. He knew his eyes had taken on that unnatural quality they sometimes did, and he felt the sudden urge to say something, to focus his desire onto the squirrel. But he couldn’t think of anything, and it just made him frustrated, and made him want more, and then a burst of something radiated from his hand, and the squirrel was healed and running away.

Merlin plays with dead things had been the next in a long line of rumors that swirled around his home.
