“Don’t be such a silly little boy.”
Ryan’s shout of protest is halfway out of his throat when it gets stuck. His face flushes hot and something else coils under his belly button as he watches Shane turn away to grab his box again. His co-host is not looking back at Ryan, instead he takes long strides down the hallway with the props and Ryan nearly chokes trying to dislodge the remark in his throat. It’s nonsense. It’s unprecedented. It’s frankly ridiculous.
But Ryan, who up to this point was absolutely sure that he was comfortably straight, has the worst boner in his life since puberty.
And he is pretty sure that Shane’s comment is to blame for it.Fuck.

He wasn't looking for anything, exactly. He was just curious, anthropologically. Like David Attenborough observing fandom in the wild.

There was nothing more or less at stake than ever, but it still felt like Ryan went into this solo investigation with so much more to lose than usual.
Due to "exterior circumstances", this is maybe the most scared Shane has ever been during a Ghost Files filming. It puts some other scary things into perspective.

“That’s a fuckin’ ridiculous idea,” Ed snaps, because he can’t contradict the angry, sad, horny descriptor. Boy’s got that part down pretty accurate.
“Yes, it is!” Stede says. “Where on earth did you come up with something like that?”
Frenchie jumps in to answer this one. “Buttons told us a story about his mum tying him and his little sister together when they’d fight, til they made up.”
“Oh, and we take advice on interpersonal relations from whatever ocean-dwelling cryptid raised Buttons now, do we?”

In Shane’s defense: A zombie apocalypse had sounded really fucking ridiculous at the time.
His first clue that Ryan hadn’t made it to the dawn of it, was the fact that he wasn’t here, rubbing it in, telling him “I told you so” at any given moment.
It wasn’t fair, of course. That the guy who had once posed the theory of zombies existing was dead, while the guy ridiculing him for it ended up outliving them.
But, while Shane looked at the smoking rubble left of the world around him, he supposed he’d given up on the world being fair a long time ago.
