Despite all the studies of soulmarks over the centuries, there are only a few hard-and-fast rules:
Most people are born with a soulmark, or it appears when their soulmate is born. Fewer appear later in life, but it isn't unusual. Multiple soulmarks are less common, but still not strange.
Bruce had Betty's words circling his left wrist. Bruce's were over Betty's heart. They were faded, but not the silvery scars of death, just time and distance, slowly drawing them apart.
The Hulk did not have a soulmark, and no one really expected him to; after all, Bruce was the one with the marks.
Until one day he did. And Bruce didn't.

Summary
Sam believes in the work he does with vets. It was a counselor who helped him when he lost Riley and helped him transition back to civilian life, and he saw his job at the VA as paying that forward. However, since joining the Avengers his off-duty skills were getting more use than his wings, and there was always something going on. Sam was tired and needed to talk, but Steve was wrapped up in Bucky, Natasha was on a mission, and he didn't really know the others well yet. He needed a night out.

When a knock sounded on the wind-swept, rain-drenched door, it was not a giant fist (or a half-giant's fist). It was a short sharp rap that sounded once, twice, three times before Minerva McGonagall simply charmed the lock open and stepped inside.
"Apologies," Minerva said crisply, as Vernon raced out brandishing his rifle and Petunia pulled Dudley up off the couch and behind her. "I wasn't sure you could hear me over the weather.” The rain fell down behind the professor in a roar. She was perfectly dry.
Minerva fished in her pocket without looking, because the only things allowed in her pockets were only ever exactly what she needed. “I've come to deliver this," she said, pulling out a letter and handing it to Harry, who was cross-legged on the floor, "because our owl post seems to have been unable to get through.”
“And I've come to deliver this," she added, pulling out a second letter, "because Hogwarts by-laws require a professor to hand-deliver acceptance letters to Muggleborn families for their explanation and comfort."
