So here he is. Sitting on the bed in a hotel room, a shit one, like a randy sleazebag who wants to watch some sordid pay-per-view without the missus knowing. He’s not even unpacked - he’s not going to be staying here, he has enough dignity left to sleep next to his plants in the back seat of the Bentley as opposed to on this spunk-encrusted mattress, thank you very much - and he hasn’t actually had to pay for the room, alright, fine, but it still feels uniquely pathetic to reach a hand into his jeans knowing that he had to put a Do Not Disturb sign on the door in order to do so. The sign had been decorated with a graphic of a person saying “shh!” and three little Zs coming from a cartoon door. Humiliating.

Lan Zhan must have thousands of photos and videos of her wife cuddling her nephew when he was still a pudgy baby, covering his face with kisses and tickling his feet while he kicked and shrieked in delight, but they do not compare to the way Wei Ying glows now as she holds their child close to her chest, standing next to his crib in the soft, warm light of the Miffy lamp on the nursery wall as she rocks him gently.
