"Sorry 'bout that, I might've forgotten to tell Maria that you guys were comin'... or stayin' for that matter." Tommy explained, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly.
"Are you sure it's fine? Ellie and I can find somewhere else to stay, we don't wanna cause any trouble."
Ellie looked up at him sharply. "Joel..." she whined. They finally had a home or at least a temporary one. Why was he willing to give it up so easily?
"Really, it's fine," Tommy assured. "It's a big house for the two of us. Plus, we could use some help with the animals."
"Sheep?" Ellie asked enthusiastically with a smile on her face.
"Yes, we could also use some help with the sheep."
Ellie squealed and tugged on Joel's jacket.
One look at her smile, and he knew what his decision would be.
(OR Joel and Ellie are thrown into a world where the infection never happened and only the two of them remember the horrors they went through. They must learn to adapt to this alternate universe and try to put their traumas in the past. But it's not that easy, is it?)

Summary

The kid huffs and crosses her arms. "You can't even stand up to beat me, so I can be as nosy as I want."
Joel just stares at her blankly. Being silent usually worked on Tommy, whenever he made up his mind that today was the perfect day to drive Joel up the wall. Usually being the key word here.
She narrows her eyes and looks closer at his casts. "What, is it something embarrassing?" she asks and leans forward, the look on her face suggesting that she is delighted by the idea. "Like you fell down the stairs or something?"
"I didn't fall down any stairs," Joel grumbles.

Joel has an accident at work and ends up in the hospital. Ellie is a foster kid who's there to keep him company. Joel is not happy about that. He's not.Spoiler alert: Joel totally fell down those stairs.

Ellie does not trust people easily.
Which – thank you captain fucking obvious – makes sense, and honestly, it’d be fucking creepy if she did trust people in the snap of a finger. Ellie can imagine it in her mind: a weird kind-of-old man (it’s not David. Not fucking David) offers her a home, somewhere safe, he gives her food. All he asks for is for her to see him as family.
He doesn’t say it though. He fucking implies it.
No, it’s not fucking David. It’s Tommy.
So, when they’re all at the mess hall on Sunday night, shoveling away at their dinners – her, Joel, Maria, and fucking Tommy – she can’t help but feel the need to actually fucking explode when Joel says: “I’ve got a three-day patrol comin’ up tomorrow at noon. I was, uh, thinkin’ that you could stay with Tommy and Maria while I’m gone. Sound alright, Ellie?”

“Shh, just relax baby. I’ve got you.”
Joel’s low voice went right to your core as he gently guided you onto your back on the bed. From the moment you walked through the door to the home you shared with Joel, he couldn’t keep his hands off of you. A fire lit up behind his eyes as he wrapped his strong arms around you. He held you close as he took your lips with his own in a heated kiss and led you to the bedroom. His large hands caressed every part of you he could reach as his tongue tangled with yours with a deep passion.
You giggled softly into his mouth as his beard tickled your nose and his hands squeezed your sides. It was a reflex for you at this point to just reach for him and cling to him as if your life depended on it. Joel made you feel safe and wanted, and there was no better feeling to you than being in his arms. You trusted him with your life, your body, and your heart, and you let him guide you through your home without a second thought.
