    Emma chews her lip, hands too preoccupied holding her phone for her to nervously pick at her nails like she typically would. The phone rings, and rings, and right when she resolves to hang up, someone picks up.

    Surprised, Emma rips the thin skin of her lower lip, and something between a gasp and a hiss falls from her mouth rather than the greeting she means to utter.

    “Emma, hun, this you?” Dana asks, voice low and rasped like Emma’s never heard it before. She knows it’s likely because she just woke Dana up in the middle of the night. That doesn’t stop her stomach from squirming as her mind associates the sound with something less than innocent before she shoves that thought far away.
