Summary
After a record-breaking year and a blindsiding trade, MLB pitcher and 2024 Cy Young winner Tyler Joseph is going into the 2025 season alone. Josh is two thousand miles away wearing different colors, catching for a different team, and Tyler is supposed to pretend like it doesn’t matter. He’s got a rotation to lead and 162 games to survive, even if the most important person in his life isn’t there.
Now Josh is gone, the season is starting, and the distance between them just gets wider and wider. All while navigating a sport that demands silence from players like them.

Bookmarker's Notes
“ He turns back around, attempting to block out the sight of all the disappointed fans’ faces in the stands. A part of him—the part comforted by routine and well-trodden paths—expects to see Josh behind the plate. Communicating in their language that has gone far beyond words to urge Tyler to forget the play and focus on the next one.
Instead, it’s Chris, the very person Josh had been called up to replace, giving Tyler a look of pure pity. His jaw clenches involuntarily, irritation bubbling up in his chest. He refuses to acknowledge it; just holds up his glove, asking for a new game ball.”

Summary
“Should call you the Ottawa Puppies,” says the Toronto centre, Svensson. As an insult it makes no sense, so Ilya ignores it, until he continues, “Hear Hollander keeps you on a short leash.”
Ilya is the captain, so if anything, he should be holding the leash. In English, you can be singular or plural, but he knows what Svensson is trying to say. He is saying Ilya Rozanov, you are Hollander’s bitch.
“Only sometimes,” Ilya replies, grinning. He wins the face off.
OR: Ilya trains himself to be a very, very good guard dog for Shane.

Summary
The terrible thing was that Shane wanted Rozanov about as much as he ever remembered wanting anything, maybe even more.

Bookmarker's Notes
(Later, when Shane ran into Rozanov in the gym, he tried really goddamn hard not to think about the way that Rozanov was looking at him—the way he had looked back, helpless to the draw of his gaze. It didn’t matter. There were things that Shane was not allowed to want. And still he felt the brush of Rozanov’s fingers like lightning all the way up his arm.)

Summary
Eddie swipes the wand beneath his eye, fast and mostly smooth. He leans back from the mirror, assessing his reflection, and smudges lightly at the ink.
“One down,” he says, mostly to himself. Steve doesn’t say anything.
He’s thinking about girls at their bathroom mirrors and bedroom vanities. Dates or one night stands or whoever else, messing with their hair and poking at their lipstick and making faces. Fixing whatever Steve had made a mess of the night before.

Bookmarker's Notes
“I think this is a bad idea,” Steve confesses.
“Whatever, I don’t care.” Eddie shrugs, sort of awkwardly, and cocks his head. “Do you?”
The thing twisting around inside Steve’s ribcage is closely associated with the habit of caring. He knows that much about himself, and he thinks Eddie, by now, should probably know that too.
But eventually he lifts his opposite hand just beneath Eddie’s mouth, and, instead of answering, he says—
“Spit.”

Since the beginning of the year, over 500 AIDS-related deaths have occurred in San Francisco as of June, and projections estimate nearly a thousand deaths by the end of the year. The anchor sounds altogether unaffected. Will doesn’t move from his spot on the couch.
“Do you want coffee?” Mike asks gently.
“Sure,” Will says, voice low.1991. The Castro, San Francisco, California. Mike Wheeler moves into Will Byers's apartment, comes of age, and falls in love.
