“Why’d you stop coming?” He blurted out before he could think.
She stopped, glancing back a moment, “What?”
“...To the forge…” He muttered, already losing the gusto he built up. ‘Drunk words are sober thoughts’ his ass, he was spewing nonsense.
“...You made it pretty clear you didn’t want to see me again,” She reminded him, a guarded look returning to her face. His stomach flipped.
“...I…did say that…” March spoke numbly. He had said that. Very clearly, actually. He had just never thought she would listen.

She is suddenly very interested in the torn skin around her fingernails. “I don't know.”
“You knew about 5 seconds ago.”
“-I just want you to like me,” she spilled, unable to stop the words from flowing out of her mouth.

March has a problem.
It's not the mining - he's perfectly capable of navigating the caves beneath Mistria, thank you very much. It's not the heat, despite what he keeps insisting about "geothermal activity." And it's certainly not the way the new farmer looks in a tank top, or the way she matches him barb for barb, or the way her laugh makes his chest do something deeply inconvenient.
He's had three months to build his walls. She dismantles them in an afternoon.

In which March loses a battle with his own self-control, Olric has spectacularly bad timing, and a workbench is used for purposes entirely unrelated to smithing.
