“And I was thinking,” Mike says slowly, “like, what if we, as in, you and I…” His gaze drops to Will’s comforter. “You know. If we maybe practicedkissingwitheachother. For our future girlfriends.”
Will can do nothing but stare at him.
Mike’s brain is truly and utterly baffling. If Will were a scientist, he’d probably want to pop it out of his pretty head and study it.
Mike rushes on, words tumbling over each other. “I mean, we’re gonna graduate soon, so it’d be pretty lame if when we start dating we're bad at kissing, you know?”
Will does not know. Because Will does not want to kiss girls.
The truth threatens to spill out of him, so he presses his lips into a thin line and nods again.
Mike’s eyes practically light up. “Does that mean you’ll do it?”
Will has never been good at saying no to Mike.

Summary
It’s been years since they’d seen each other. Will’s kept his head down, drifting in an invisible existence when an old friend slams back into his life. Tragedy strikes, again, and they’re forced to work through the scars of the past in the company of a cramped car.
Will must look his own pain in the face before he loses Mike all over again.

Summary
“I want everything, Mike!” Will shouts. “I don’t want to be your stress relief or your experiment. I want dates, and to hold your hand, and to know what you’re thinking without you having a fucking panic attack about it!”
Mike stared, his face a mask of stunned incomprehension. “I… I can give you those things. We’re best friends. That’s what we do.”
“No,” Will laughed, a hollow, broken sound. “No, you can't. Because you’re not in love with me, Mike. And I am. I am so stupidly, completely, pathetically in love with you that I let you destroy me piece by piece because at least you were touching me.”
Mike’s eyes unfocused, fingers twitching, and then refocused with some newfound clarity. Something passed between them that Will recognized as a decision being made, but he didn't know what.
“...Okay.”
Will blinked. “What?”
“Okay,” Mike repeated, as if it were simple. As if Will had asked him to pick up milk. “If that’s what you want. I’ll do it.”
Or, Mike Wheeler decides that fake dating his best-friend-turned-hookup is a better option than losing him.

Summary
“Will Byers?”
Will glances around, as if there is another Will Byers in their vicinity. He manages a small smile. “Yeah, it’s- uh. It’s me.”
Mike rushes forward, and all he can think is holy shit, Will is alive, as he’s throwing his arms around the other boy and tugging him in for a crushing hug. It isn’t until Will is secure, nestled–maybe a bit stiffly–in his arms, that Mike starts crying.
“I thought you were dead,” Mike murmurs, muffled by Will’s jacket. He sniffles. “I thought- we- they told us you were dead.”
Or, Will was never found in S1, but survives in the Upside Down until 1987 due to his powers and connection with Vecna. Cue Mike, an ill-timed trip to the Upside Down, and a lot of feelings.

The stupidly gorgeous guy groans, burying his head in his hands. “Was it that obvious?” he asks pitifully. “I’ve been trying to escape all night. Marianne is insane. I’m actually scared.”
