Little Powder sleeps soundly, one small hand wrapped around a strand of Silk’s hair. Silk holds the blanket-wrapped girl in her arms, propped upwards by pillows in Felicia’s bed, the way she and Connol told her Powder likes it. Felicia and Connol have taken Violet across the undercity to visit a doctor – Violet needs antibiotics for a particularly persistent ear infection- and Powder, not yet a month old, is too small to travel. So Felicia had asked if Silk, Vandra, or both of them would be able to watch over her.

Powder needs to be looked after for a little while in the absence of her parents. Vandra and Silk think about what it would mean to have children of their own.

Summary

Instead of Silco becoming an industrialist that takes over the lanes he spins out after his lover tries to drown him. He’s in and out of drug dens far from the lanes, sticking to shitty places in the deep sumps. In a clear moment he finds himself in the mines.

In which child-Viktor refuses to abandon Silco; an act of devotion that changes the trajectory of Zaun's uprising. While Vander negotiates with Enforcers, Silco single-parents a revolution in the dark. Someone has to fund his son's endless charity work and vaccinate zaunish kids.
