Tim tries to keep a stable life. He really does.
He tries to keep a job, maintain his house, and take his medication—all regular things in a regular person’s life.
But sometimes that person wakes up with a busted leg, in the middle of nowhere. Sometimes that same someone befriends a neighbor, who disappears, and leaves behind a plethora of odd evidence of her stalking you and your old friends from college, and has notes about this channel called ‘Marble Hornets.’
Sometimes that person also gets a cat.

something felt so, so incredibly wrong, about the fact that there was currently... something, a fragment, a piece, a soul, terrifying as the implication was, something, tied to his mind, more worrying that it apparently belonged to the man who took everything from him, burned his once-home to the ground and had caused him so much pain.
what's more worrying still was that this version, splinter, whatever it was, was so distantly detached from the cruel and downright mad nature of the one who was supposed to be real.
that the one in his dreams was all gentle voice, weirdly analytical composure, thoughtful and contemplative and unbelievably unlike the general he had worshipped from afar, unlike the fallen angel who haunted his every step.
the one in his dreams was all too... soft.
and, unfortunately for him, it was even more unsettling with how aware the other was of his own softness, and was just as confused as him.

“I know, that’s what you have me for,” Kabru replies, a small smile on his lips.

Summary
That day, Kabru made a vow not to lie to Laios again if he could help it. Not only was it not necessary to lie to him, it only seemed to make things worse. Even his truthful statements would be doubted at first. He had to live with the consequences of that anyway, but being honest with Laios came easily. Too easily. He would let his guard down and say things like this, out of the blue, surprising even himself. He vowed not to lie, but was he lying about his feelings by never mentioning them until now, if he wasn't even aware of them? The price of understanding everyone else's feelings and motivations was that he never quite seemed to be in tune with his own. Just then, he put into words the feeling he had been experiencing for a long time, and it was as much of a surprise to him as it was to Laios.

That was… strange. Jay practically knew where he kept the spares by heart. Alex shook his head; maybe he’d misplaced them, and nothing was up with Jay. “Have you seen Tim anywhere around here? We can’t find him.”
Jay opened his mouth as if to say something, but he clamped it shut. He seemed… paused? Then he blinked, moving his eyes around. “Sorry, what?”
Alex furrowed his brow. “I asked if you’ve seen Tim.”
“Oh. Oh! No, I haven’t. Sorry.” Jay shrugged. “Or, um, I guess I saw him walking around? He kind of brushed past, I didn’t actually get to see where he was going.”
