mira admired rumi’s features with the same amount of love and affection that she always did, acting as though nothing was out of the ordinary as she soaked in her wife’s radiance. she leaned in with delicate confidence and kissed rumi softly on her lips this time, “isn’t she pretty?”
a beat of silence. and then another. five heart beats, she counted, unsure of who she was waiting for to speak. and then realization struck. zoey blinked, glancing between both sets of eyes looking directly at her, “me?”
mira nodded, nosing against rumi’s ear and kissing the side of her cheek. zoey had never been asked something so directly like this by one of them either, and couldn’t help but feel like it was some sort of ploy to catch her in the act. for her to slip up and admit how badly she wanted her wife.
because of course she wanted her. she wanted both of them.
zoey likes the married couple next door a little bit more than she should. luckily for her, it seems like they might like her just as much.

"You're so beautiful." Zoey whispers, the compliment sinks into every fiber of Rumi's being. It's a warm fuzzy feeling at first and then it turns sour. Rumi's eyes scatter away as she tries to redirect the thoughts that tell her she is anything but beautiful. She could never be beautiful with the patterns that scar her skin."I'm not." Falls from her lips before she can stop it. Without missing a beat Zoey cups each side of Rumi's face urging her to look at her. Rumi keeps her gaze averted, too embarrassed to look at her partner.
"You are." Zoey means every syllable as her thumbs stroke Rumi's cheek.

“The fans are eating up you being a romantic,” Rumi informs her with a smile. “They think it’s cute.”
Mira frowns, pausing her scratching under Derpy's chin (he does not seem to mind. Or notice. Honestly, Mira's not exactly sure if the tiger is even aware that he's alive, sometimes…). “I’m not supposed to be cute. Zoey is cute-”
“Aw, thank you!”
“-you are cute, puppies are cute, Derpy is cute.”
“Mira you’re very, very cute,” Zoey disagrees loudly from where she’s poking at a pot on the stove.
“No, I- ugh. Whatever, not the point. Why did you two say that, anyway, about me being some closet romantic?”
Rumi blinks at her. “Because… you are?”
“I am not- when have you ever seen me fawn over someone opening a door?” Mira scoffs, resuming her ministrations on their fluffy visitor.
“Never, but-”
"So why did you do that? Now people think I'm some swooning idiot."
“Right, no- Mira, I meant that you like to do those things.”
“Duh,” Zoey calls helpfully from the kitchen.In which Mira decides to sweep Rumi and Zoey off their feet, and Rumi and Zoey are too stupid (affectionate) to realize it.
