Summary
There are times, though, when the weight of remembering isn’t so heavy — when, instead, she has to laugh. It’s like an inside joke with herself, to remember what they’ve forgotten. Not in any malicious way, just —
Merle keeps flirting with her.

It’s Carey’s turn to contemplate all of this now; she taps her fingers staccato against her leg, and Magnus watches. “How about — if I do this, and I ask out K, you gotta go for it with Taako, too.”
All Magnus wants is for his friends to be happy. He agrees immediately. “It’s a deal!”
“High five me. Right now.”
(Or: Magnus makes a bet, and gets more than he expected.)

Summary
Taako's mind is taunting him, it seems — it doesn’t delay in reminding him that this is the exact reason he doesn’t let himself grow attached to anyone, because they’d just as soon forget about him entirely. People he has don’t tend to stay.

Summary
One of John’s brothers had tried to teach him the names of the stars once, a few years back, but only a few of them had stuck. He knows enough to know they’re exactly the same as the ones in Geneva, a whole ocean away, but they carry a different air to them, somehow. They feel heavier, back home, like they’ll fall from the sky at any moment.
Or maybe it’s not the stars at all. Maybe John just feels lighter here. With Francis. It's a possibility.

Summary
Mortals have always just been a thin slice of paper blowing on a rock around the universe, and this isn't rock-paper-scissors. They can't conquer the earth, as much as they try. They'll only be ripped in half and shredded.
Of course, the two mages standing on a mountain watching the world burn are not paper. They're no longer that flammable.

His eyes open.
Metaphorically, of course; his eyes are cameras embedded where, according to his databanks, eyes would be on humans. They are, however, what he uses to see, so eyes are an appropriate analogy.

Cities from space look like spiderwebs. Cecil's seen the pictures, and they're amazing. The bright lights spread out, streets and houses and parks clearly visible even from so many miles away.
Night Vale isn't like that.
