Her sensitive ears caught the answer, the distance cleaving it into digestible morsels. As if her brain knew she mustn’t hear it in its integrity, should she stray from her path.
“Faith, she has plenty. If misplaced.” And then, a handful of seconds later, quieter and pensive. “Let her guide her own path, we must only ready our hands to catch her, should she fall like I fell.”

“You don’t want me?” Shadowheart asks innocently, playing with the hem of Aylin’s shirt. “Your eyes say otherwise. They follow me around camp like lapdogs.”
Those eyes harden to stone. “I trust you remember my beloved, who sleeps within earshot of your brazen words.”
“For fuck’s sake, what’s one dead cleric from another?” It’s been a lifetime of slow, sexless minutes since Shadowheart finished her wine. Her thoughts have begun to rouse from their stupor, which she can’t abide. “Fine. Invite the raccoon if you wish. She’s pretty enough, under the charcoal.”

Summary
Aylin and Isobel were the kind of soulmates that people wished for. They were deeply and truly in love the moment they met and even their marks for each other were kind and loving. One would expect that them gaining a third would go a similar way. Unfortunately it does not.
