Bear Sweater stood at the counter and sucked noisily at the coffee, then sighed and looked for a long moment into Hickey's eyes. "Be careful going outside tonight. Weather like this....brings out the beast sometimes. Who knows what a man'll get up to? All kinds of rules go out the window." He winked at Hickey, then ambled out of the store, his coffee half drunk and steaming on the counter.Later, when everything had gone wrong and some of them were dead, Hickey would remember this conversation. He would remember, and he would smile. Bear Sweater was right, of course. Who knew what a man could do, given the right opportunity?
