“Hey,” Orion’s voice crackles to life over her radio. “I think there’s a guy down there.”
“A guy,” Vestra deadpans, scanning the debris of the ship’s ruined hull through her scope. There’s a fallen patrol picking their way through rusted steel, two Dregs and a Vandal. She puts the Vandal’s head in her sights, thinking. The Captain’s last known location is still pinged on her HUD, less than three hundred and fifty yards away. If she takes the shot now there’s no way he doesn’t hear her fire and sound the alarm. Dammit. “You really think that out of all the stupid shit you come up with, ‘a guy’ is what’s gonna get me?”
Fireteam Mad Dog meets their third member.

He swings his legs over the edge of the cot and watches Trip take off his helmet and set it by the door. His optic lights glow brightly in the dark and for a moment all he does is stare out at the trees through the crumbling bit of wall.
“The patrol go alright?”
Trip hesitates, just for a second, blue light flickering in and out just long enough for his Ghost to start doing the talking for him. “One of the other Guardians on patrol had a run in with a group of Fallen. She did not survive.”

He tries to ignore it for as long as he can, eyes shut tight in defiance of his own silly impulses. He can feel John’s back against his own, can feel his warmth radiating through both of their t-shirts, and he’s almost certain that Adam is tucked in John’s arms like he is every night. But it’s that ‘almost’ that makes his pulse pound in his throat and eventually give in.
He just… has to be sure.
