When Stede's promise of a snowstorm in the Caribbean (shockingly) falls through, he's desperate to make it up to the crew. But throwing a party with no decorations, not to mention a creeping sense that it's not really about the party at all, might be harder than controlling the weather—at least, until he gets a little help from his friends.

“Mnf?” she asks, instinctively looping her arms around Stede’s neck even before she’s processed it’s him—though who else could it be, really, with arms strong enough to lift her like a child but hands gentle as anything as he brushes her thigh, urging it more firmly around his waist.

Ed has seen hundreds of people fall to the warmth of his mother’s embrace by now—shy teens with newly-purchased flags around their necks like a cape, obviously, but also kinksters and furries and middle-aged lesbian couples and totally unassuming men who are probably at least ten years her senior.
Ed hasn’t seen much of his mom in the last fifteen minutes, though, because he’s been sort of kind of following a random guy through the Gayborhood Market.

Stede looks up from the shirt he’s mending, must see something in Ed’s face because he sets it immediately aside. “Mean what?”
For a moment, Ed just blinks at him, not quite sure what he meant either; then, in the same way as that night with the moonlight and the silk, it all finally clicks into place. “That this can be—whatever we want it to be.”

And Cassian sits there now, in the middle of his room, on furs Jyn had procured, wondering, not for the first time, where she had been all his life.
It is a thought that occurs to him every so often, a regret he tries to push aside because they have their lives and the war ahead of them, and she has been through so much pain and suffering all on her own.
But sometimes he thinks of Ferrix, freezing cold Ferrix, of lying scared and lonely in his bed in the years after Kenari, a child of warmth and summer, suddenly lost in a winter world. And he thinks that maybe if he’d been able to seek out her sun, to dive into her heat, to throw his arms around a girl much tinier and warmer than himself, he would have never sought the darkness in the first place.
