Eddie drops down on the couch next to him, kicking his feet up on the coffee table.
"My boyfriend's being an asshole."

Chris looks at something over Buck’s shoulder, puzzled. Buck turns his head to see Eddie standing there. But he’s not alone.
“Oh—Abigail?” Buck questions.
Why would Abigail be here?
“Uh?” she stutters. Her eyes dart over Buck—at the way his relaxed nature turns suddenly uneasy.
Clearly, she’s thinking the same thing as him. Why would Buck be here?
Except Buck belongs here. He fought his way to sit at this table. He and Eddie have fought their way to be here, together.
OR: Buck is over for dinner when Abigail shows up at Eddie's doorstep.

Summary
Later, Eddie would remember it in slow motion. The way he could feel everyone freeze in place. It was all broken by a single yell.
“It’s gonna fall!”
Eddie wasn’t sure who sent out the warning. As if shocked to life, everyone around him jumped to action, moving themselves and others out of the way.
In reality it was maybe thirty seconds in total. Eddie was still standing in place, frozen. He was unable to tear his gaze away from the building in front of him.
The building that was collapsing.
The building that Buck was inside.

“I can't be your boyfriend, Buck.”
Buck tries his best not to show how much it stings. He’s read it all wrong. God, of course he has. “I'm…yeah. No, of course not. I don't know what I was-”
“Because I'm not.”
Buck blinks. “...not into guys?”, he asks, and it feels a little like salt in the wound to ask for clarification. But there’s something in Eddie’s expression - a hesitancy almost.
Eddie scrunches up his mouth at the side, looking down at his shoes for a moment before he speaks.
“Not a guy, Buck. I can't be your boyfriend because I'm not a boy.”
In which Eddie is back from El Paso and it's like nothing has changed. Except things have changed. Because Eddie is non-binary.

“Oh!” Eddie glances between Buck and Father Brian. “This is, my, uh, well - this is Buck.” He gestures to Buck, feeling sweat beginning to bead on the back of his neck.
Nice going, Eddie, he thinks. Really fumbled that spectacularly.
“Yeah, I’m his Buck,” Buck agrees easily, unbothered by Eddie’s awkwardness. He shakes Father Brian’s hand. “Nice to meet you."

Or, it's Christmas tradition for Eddie to attend midnight mass with Tia Pepa, this year Buck tags along and Eddie runs into a familiar face.
