After the war, Giyuu is finally allowed to rest and unpack all of that pent-up trauma, because just the knowledge that he's done his job, saved all of Japan and most of his friends, is enough. At least until slayers start going missing, almost like a path, cutting straight towards Giyuu. So he runs.
Or Giyuu is sent to another timeline 4 years in the past where the dead aren't so deep underground.
