Yu Junghyeok's steps were steady when he walked towards the dying demon king, but the magic in the air trembled, simmering with dangerous, brimming rage.
He stopped before the demon, lifting his hand to touch a bloody cheek.
"Kim Dokja."
The Demon King stirred awake, blinking dazedly, taking a concerningly long while to focus his eyes and acknowledge the archangel in front of him.
"Yu J'hyeok…" he breathed, nearly inaudible. A smile made a way to his lips in a mockery of his usual grin, far too exhausted to be called playful. "…you're late."
Yu Junghyeok clenched his sword a little harder. Yet the hand that was touching the Demon King's cheek was still painfully gentle.
"Who did this," he said, dangerously calm and unhurried.

He flinches.
Yu Junghyeok caresses those trembling lips, shushing the restrained whimpers that threaten to escape.
"It's okay if you don't want to let out your voice, but remember this," he whispers, slipping his hand behind the half-siren's ear, "I don't mind. I find your voice beautiful."
Years of trauma won't get erased just by having someone tell you it doesn't matter. It is not something that would be cured just by the power of love. But it's okay, it's okay. At least, it could make things slightly more bearable.

Kim Dokja reasonably took Yoo Joonghyuk’s clinginess towards him during his rut as the regressor’s biological instincts to seek comfort during an alpha’s rut (being clingy) and chronic trust issues (being clingy to him of all people). He genuinely could not comprehend what it was about his bland beta self that Joonghyuk prefers over, say, Lee Seolhwa’s refreshing apple mint scent—especially when he considers that they were once mates.
His first attempt to make sense of the mystery fell short as the glare the alpha shot him in response to the question was so scathing he thus learned to never bring it up again.
