Summary
The gods that once watched over us were killed: their shrines destroyed, their worshippers slain, and their names erased.
Deep in the heart of an ancient forest, though, there sat one last time-worn shrine of a forgotten protector goddess. She was called Mira; she was fire and war, love and life.
For centuries, Mira drifted through a dreamless slumber.
Then, one day, two brave young women full of hopes and dreams and love reawakened her. She owed them her life, and they owed her theirs. Their names were Rumi and Zoey, and they devoted themselves to Mira as deeply as they devoted themselves to each other. The goddess and her two angels fell in love and built a new world together.
But the goddess always feared the day she'd no longer be able to protect her mortal lovers from death.

“Why bring her to me?” She was not a savior, she was a monster. Every day she carried the broken pieces of stone birds into her temple and mended them with clay and twine. The Nereid only tilted her head, sea-weed dark hair sliding wetly across her shoulders and throat. “Her quest was to find you.”
“Find me?” She scoffed. “People find me for one reason only.”
“To kill you?” grinned Zoey. It was a feral thing, revealing rows of serrated teeth. The illusion of a beautiful woman suddenly replaced by something wild, something dangerous. How apt.
She shook her head morosely. “To die.”
