Summary
The gentle tune of a foreign song filled the room. Making it feel calm and cozy. The melody was of an instrument soft like the violin yet its edges glazed with a sharpness like the pianos from earth. Altean music, maybe? Keith had never heard one before to know for sure.
He followed Lance inside. Lance's hands were behind his back and head straight forward. The usual smooth sway of his hips looked tense, either from nervousness or excitement. Keith wasn't sure which one it was…
Lance stopped in front of the… blanket. It was a blue blanket. Lance's blanket. There was a cake in the middle of it and a lot of pillows all over. The whole place was bathed in a golden glow from the swaying flames all around them.
He opened his mouth to ask what was going on, but Keith's breath got caught in his throat when Lance's hand slowly wrapped around his wrist and gave it a gentle squeeze, "Happy birthday, Keith." He said in no more than a whisper, looking at Keith so softly he felt his insides melt.

Summary
Then he looked back at Keith, the glossy shine of his eyes gently tucked behind the excuse of the rain. Yet a smile dancing on his lips regardless, "We're back, mullet. We're home."
And suddenly Keith realized that maybe he didn't need the desert-shack to return home. That maybe he already was there, so long as he was with the people he called his own.
Because sometimes, the places stay the same—the trees, the houses, the smells filling the air with the bitter-sweet taste of nostalgia—and it's he who doesn't fit in the old memories anymore.
Or
The war's over and they're all going their own ways with countless promises of staying in touch. But does Keith really have a place left to go back to anymore...

Summary
His eyes widened as the lyrics started flowing through the air, getting slightly stifled by the sound of his shower, but clear as day nonetheless.
And wow. Lance stood frozen in place as water kept dropping all around him. Ghost or not, the singer sure had the voice of an angel— the irony. Their tune was slightly off but the deep and clear voice didn’t let Lance’s attention stay in there long enough to care.
Suddenly the voice got muffled as the sound of water increased leaving Lance confused. He was finally out of his daze when he realized that the singer was in fact, not some ghost but his neighbor.
Here, the designers once again decided that having the two bathrooms separated by one thin wall was such a good idea.
And now they were showering at the same time. The guy probably didn’t even realize that the empty room next to his had been taken. And he was singing. Oh man, he was singing and Lance couldn’t help standing there, frozen in fascination.
Or
Their rooms are opposite from each other in the Garrison's dorms, where the walls are good for nothing, and Lance can hear his mysterious neighbor singing in the shower– and join him too?

Summary
“I win—" The boy said while gasping for air, then started coughing from taking in too much of it.
“Hah— nonsense, I’m— the one getting in first,” Keith got out. He instinctually handed the boy his water bottle after taking a swig himself.
Gulping down half of the water the boy narrowed his eyes at him, “Oh no— you should’ve put that mullet out of your eyes— I’m the one crossing the line first.”
“That doesn’t count! I entered the train first. I win. Period,” There was no way Keith would accept defeat.
After staring at the ceiling for a moment—not long enough to have actually thought of something—he flicked his fingers and looked at Keith with a flare in his eyes that was bordering from playful to challenging. Mischief, he thought would be a better word, “OK, let’s set the middle line here. The one who gets down first, loses.”
Keith smirked, ignoring the slight skip of his heart with those eyes on him, “Oh you’re on.”
Or
Keith's monotonous life at the new city gets interrupted by the mysterious boy singing at the subway station like a siren out to hunt

Summary
It’s been happening more often in the past few months, bouts of uncharacteristic silence coated in something unspoken. Teasing jokes of Lance’s that settle oddly. Casual touches lingering a second too long, burning skin left behind where Lance has touched him.
The gradual change has been odd, but it’s easy to walk away from. Easy to ignore. Keith has gotten good at recognizing it early and shutting it down. If he’s being honest with himself, they both have.
And it's worked for a long time, but Keith is rapidly regaining his mental footing to to the press of Lance's legs into his side and the obvious diversion of his eyes, nowhere to go and nothing to say.

Summary
“I’d be a shit boyfriend,” Keith says, begging Lance to see what’s in front of him. The problem’s always Keith, his inner workings displacing him just to the left of everyone else—a Venn diagram of Keith versus others that slides further apart with every new data point until it’s just two circles. “I don’t care about dating stuff. And I can’t—you know how I am.”
“Yeah, I like how you are,” Lance says.
“And I care a lot about you,” Keith shoots off like an accusation. “We can be boyfriends if you want because it doesn’t matter to me. Dating’s even farther off my radar than sex was.”
—

Summary
“This isn’t some kind of joke to me,” Keith says quietly, eyes fluttering all over Lance’s face. It’s the bare minimum really—to have a man clarify that the situation he’s treated as some kind of burden isn’t truly a burden to him after all.
So: Caught between fear and something that feels dangerously like hope, Lance promptly loses his entire mind about it.

Summary
“I already told you, I don’t have hypothermia,” Lance says. “I’m okay. I’m just really, really cold.”
Keith raises an eyebrow. “What do you think hypothermia is?”
“Oh, don’t get all technical. I—”
His body betrays him by breaking out into another fit of shivers, so violent they leave him dizzy, his vision dark at the edges.
It knocks most of the fight out of him, and he sits there for a moment, feeling miserable and pathetic.
“Look,” Keith says, his voice low and infuriatingly kind, “you can drop the act. I know you. I can tell when you’re not okay.”
Lance stares at him, feeling exposed and cut to the bone.
“I could get better on my own,” he says.
“You won’t,” Keith tells him bluntly. “Not unless you let me help you.”
