Summary
He’s spent the last minutes unveiling a wound he’s kept guarded under dozens of bandages for years, and peeling each one of those layers off, no matter how careful he’s trying to be, still hurts like he’s roughly tearing at them instead.

Summary
He started to get up, but froze as a hand gripped his. Rust's eyes were still closed and he appeared to be asleep, but the fingers that slowly intertwined with his seemed lucid enough.
Maybe it was just a reflex. He couldn't imagine that Rust had had a lot of human contact these past few years, after all. So perhaps his body had just reacted instinctively to the touch; desperate to hold on to something it had long been denied.

Summary
"Rust doesn’t want to die, not right now. That doesn’t mean he won’t want it tomorrow, or in a few hours. Part of him is still down in Carcosa, and he’s not sure how much of him is left, or what he wants back. The universe ruined his best laid plans once again, when it let Martin Hart drag him out of the dust in which he was dying, back to the land of the living.
This is why Rust doesn’t let himself make plans. "
Rust thinks about the state of the world as it is, and realizes something he's been missing. And he gets to smoke.
{Part of the Morning of the Void 'verse, but can be read as a stand-alone fic.}

Summary
Some little scene sketches from early in Marty and Rust's partnership, and parts of the 1995 investigation. Not in chronological order.
In Louisiana Rust creates his own structure. His work is necessary and not overtly cruel to the larger human organism of which he is a part. He is entitled to the things that allow him to do the work: mattress, cigarettes, books, shoes.
He is not entitled to Marty but has ended up with him anyway. This will backfire.
