Summary
Mike squinted, staring up at the figure standing stock-still in the doorway.
Then, his eyes adjusted and he let out a loud gasp, his eyes widening comically.
The person looked mangy, as if they’d just spend the last week on the worst camping trip of their life—twigs stuck in their hair and dirt covering them from head to toe. But the worst was the expression on their face—wild, nearly manic in its surprise, like they couldn’t remember the last time they’d seen another living person.
The name tumbled from Mike’s lips, quiet and more than a little awed.
“Max?”
