“Below,” Gabriel says, tightening his grip. “Earth, Hell, I frankly do not care, but this ‘audience’ is over.”
Do they think he won’t notice? That Crowley won’t pick up on the tiniest spark of Aziraphale? That they can hide his angel from him?
Crowley’s nails are making dents in the desk. “And how do I know you’re not lying?”
“I’m an angel,” Gabriel insists proudly. “We don’t lie. We use heavenly euphemisms.”
The breathing space that Crowley described is shorter than expected. Just like Aziraphale and Crowley, Heaven is trying to buy time, and unfortunately for the two of them, severing the right ties requires more than paperwork. -

None of them replied, but they did look enraptured with him. Like he was some kind of exotic animal in the zoo. He curled into the blanket as much as he could, wishing he could sink through the floor.
What were they even staring at?
Bunch of creeps.
-------------------------------------------------Tommy thought getting abducted by aliens meant he'd be tied to a slab and dissected. That... didn't happen. Instead, they coo, stare, and pamper him like a treasured pet. If only he could get them to see he was sentient. Easy, right?

There's only so much you can do to in a 22 minute time loop that ends in the sun going supernova. You've tried a whole lot of what you can do, but at some point, there's a change that needs to happen, and you have to try something new.
So you can try to fix it, or give up. You're leaning on the former.
But as you realize, it's a painfully hard job to keep a dying universe from going out completely.
