Scott remembers what it felt like to have Kip ripped out of his hands by fear and silence and a world that insisted love like his had to be hidden. Remembers the hollow space it left behind, the way he couldn’t breathe around the pain, and he wouldn’t wish that kind of loss on anyone.

And somehow, for the first time, Rozanov doesn’t look like an asshole at all. Just a man holding the person he loves like the world might try to pry him away.

Summary
Quiet mornings at the cottage had always been Shane’s favorite.
With Ilya there, things have only gotten better. Warm, sun-drenched mornings stretch into slow afternoons. They float between the bedroom to the deck and out swimming in the lake, hockey long forgotten about and their phones abandoned on the table.
They spend their evenings curled up on the sofa under blankets, their feet touching without having to say a word. They have dinner with Shane’s parents and listen to the loons by the bonfire, quiet conversations feeling less vulnerable.
So when they wake up one morning to eight missed calls from Rose and a flurry of text messages waiting in his inbox, he wishes he never looked.
Call me back when you see these messages.
I’m really, really sorry, Shane. This isn’t how any of this should have happened.
