She will be ostracized, but she will also be treated as an irreplaceable asset in the army, with constant contradictions that she must only bow down to and ignore, contradictions she will avoid continuing to do her duty as the Shogun's most trusted general.
But, with blood dripping down her back, wings spread and black feathers drifting down to the wet dirt, hands shakily holding her bow, she realizes now that indifference towards their animosity is not what she desired.

The police are ‘looking into it’ is the excuse Patty keeps hearing, and soon Allison's posters start disappearing from the phone poles and bulletin boards, replaced by missing dogs and ads for cleaning services. It takes seven years for somebody to be declared legally dead, Patty tells Neil, tells Kevin, tells the WPD. Seven years.
But Worcester is ready to kill Allison in two weeks.

They're always just, like this." She sets her palms an inch apart, two fingers awkwardly clinging to the neck of the bottle to keep it from spilling, and it doesn't look parallel at all but it'll do. "Parallel universes are like that, but universes. They don't touch, ever. Who cares if it's there? If you can't touch it, it might as well not exist, right?"
