Imogen can see dark tears forming at the corners of her enourmous dark eyes and she hates herself for being the cause.
"I cannot lose you again." Laudna's voice trembles. "I won't."

They’d never slept together, or kissed, but Imogen had wanted to. Had wanted, and been afraid. And then Laudna had left, and she was alone, and she had to figure it all out then, didn’t she, because she was falling the fuck apart.
Orym and Ashton had made her promise to be cool about this, to not make a scene, and she was doing her best, she was, but it was harder than she’d thought it would be. Thankfully, the part of her that ran on autopilot at meet and greets and business meetings and parties rolled its eyes (metaphorically speaking, of course) and opened her mouth."
