Summary
“I…” Words died on Arthur’s tongue as she took in the warlock before her, the overwhelming sense of relief upon seeing her for the first time in a week. Tears rose in her eyes, a lump burning in the back of her throat, and she closed her mouth and wordlessly held her arms out to the other girl. A flash of relief danced across Merlin’s face, and within seconds, Merlin had swept across the room and pulled Arthur into her arms. “Merlin,” Arthur whispered with a crack of her voice, clinging to Merlin like a lifeline and burying her face into her shoulder.
“Shhh,” Merlin soothed, running a hand up Arthur’s back. Her grip was warm, firm, and gentle at the same time with an overwhelming perfume of flowers. “I’m here, I’m so sorry–”
“Don’t,” Arthur croaked, tightening her grip on Merlin’s waist. “Please don’t apologize, Merlin. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. It wasn’t your fault.”

Summary
Ghosts have always haunted Arthur Pendragon, even before she was trained in the art of war.
As her father raved and raged about the evils of magic, she saw the ghosts of those her father killed in the corners of her eyes. She held her tongue in those situations, obviously, because anyone with the clairvoyant ability to see the dead was also magical, and she didn’t believe she was spared from her father’s fury. Despite being his only heir since her mother died, Arthur knew she wasn’t immune.
