Summary
The Imperial invasion and following war has taken far too much from far too many people in Faerghus. Each new dawn seems to only bring more pain. Each new year only makes the situation worse. Ashe becomes accustomed to fighting for his life and paranoia, despite his best efforts to not let himself fall to despair. Even the promised reunion with his classmates comes with the news of loss entwined equally with the good.
As Dedue's death looms over their lives, heavy and stifling, Ashe searches desperately for a way to cope.

Summary
Six months after the Adrestian Empire Invades Faerghus with no warning, the Kingdom is on the brink of collapse and mass desertion is imminent in the ranks. In a desperate effort to promote unity, Lord Gilbert of House Dominic and Duke Rodrigue of House Fraldarius engage their young children for marriage. Once the war is over and they become of age, Annette and Felix will be joined together in matrimony.
Nine years later, the fighting has not abated and tensions are boiling over once more. The decision is made to move the wedding up for the morale of all troops. Annette and Felix have each been on the front lines for the last five years, but they've been serving in different areas. The first time they are to meet is at the end of the aisle of the cathedral in Garreg Mach when they say their vows.

Summary
“Be brave,” he whispered. “Aerion always says we are dragons. I am a dragon. Dracarys!”
He started sprinting and to his horror he felt the heat of flame lick at his heels. A scream broke out of him and he stumbled and fell to the ground. His entire body shaking, he turned on his back to see what he was facing.
A small silvery dragon was perched on the smoking trunk of a tree, watching Egg with serpentine eyes.
After the tourney at Ashford, Maekar sends Egg to Dragonstone, hoping he won't cause anymore mischief under the supervision of his uncle Baelor. He should have known his son better than that, he just didn't expect the boy to become the first Dragonrider in almost 80 years.

Summary
“Has Aerion repeated his… advances?” Baelor asks carefully.
“Well, he—The prince is…”
“Like a whore desperate for some coin.”
“Stubborn.” Ser Duncan finishes, wide-eyed.
“That too, I suppose,” Baelor says wryly. “I don’t need to tell you to pay him no mind, do I?”
“No,” The knight denies vehemently. “I won’t disappoint you like that, Your Grace.”
A pause, after which Baelor hears himself ask as though he’s outside of his body, listening in. He regrets the words as soon as they come out of his mouth. “And if you hadn’t pledged yourself to me?”
Ser Duncan looks caught, his blush darkening high up in his cheeks. “I have no business doing that with a prince.”
“And if he wasn’t one?” He presses.
“I don’t know. Aerion is hateful, but—pretty.”
“Yes, I suppose so.” Baelor sighs. Aerion is pretty. It’s everything he hides behind that which makes him ugly.
“You are very handsome as well, Your Grace.” Ser Duncan is quick to reassure him, nodding seriously.
Inevitably charmed, Bealor has to hide his smile behind his hand.
Or, Dunk gets two Targaryen squires and finds himself in the middle of a bizarre love triangle.

Summary
After the chaos of the tourney, Prince Daeron Targaryen faces the aftermath of bloodshed and injury. Searching for Egg, he finds Ser Duncan gravely wounded by the elm tree — and is forced to confront his own guilt.
"His heart ached seeing the knight like this. Daeron did not know much of honour, didn't possess much of it himself, but he recognised it when he saw it. Ser Duncan had done what all knights should, he had defended the innocent. He had started an avalanche of blood with it, but he had stayed true to his oath."
