Summary
She makes it all of two chapters into her book before James "Bucky" Barnes, former Winter Soldier, someone she has talked to precisely twice, bursts in, breathing heavily. Before Darcy can ask what the hell is going on, he's dashing across the room, ducking behind the arm of the couch she's leaning on. Darcy raises her eyebrows and pokes her head over the couch.
"I'm not here," he says, tucking himself down enough that if someone walked in, they wouldn't be able to see him.
"I beg to differ," Darcy says.
Darcy glances at the hall when she hears footsteps, then back down at Barnes, who's making frantic shushing noises. Well, at least whatever he's running from isn't dangerous, or he'd have dragged her into hiding, too. Probably. She hopes.
"Bucky?"
And yep, that's Captain America's voice she hears calling down the hall. She peers down at Barnes again, leveling him a very unimpressed look, one she usually reserves for Tony. He looks at her with pleading eyes and she just groans. So unfair, the asshole. She can't resist a good pair of puppy dog eyes, and the lure of being someone's partner in mischief. He knows it too, by the small smile tugging at his lips.

"I'm sure you don't think your generation invented sex," Bucky says with a wink.
"I don't," Darcy says quickly, trying to calm her damn racing heart. She's read the history books, okay? She knows all about what Bucky Barnes got up to. "Just never pictured you old timers as particularly kinky."
"Maybe that's failure of imagination on your part," Bucky says.
"Oh believe me, I imagine plenty," Darcy says, then groans, realizing what she just said. Bucky's grin is even wider and Darcy wants to facepalm so badly. "I'm quitting while I'm behind," she says. "Work, I have. Now. Gotta go. Okay, bye."

Summary
The threat of the Winter Soldier programming taking over is one that everyone at the tower (with high enough clearance to even know about him) takes very seriously. Before he's brought in, there are security drill after security drill, all kinds of briefings to read, strategically-placed and reinforced panic rooms, the whole nine yards. Neither Darcy nor Jane are particularly worried about it, it's unlikely they'll cross his path in general, but they do everything they're told anyway.
It turns out the prep they were given wasn't entirely unwarranted, but it does end up being a little useless. They were told to remain nonthreatening, which is easy to do, and to remain calm, which isn't. They were also told that the Soldier would be angry and violent, which he isn't. The blank coldness melts from his face, leaving him looking around him, confusion on his face.

“You’re Bucky Barnes!” Darcy blurts out, feeling dumb for just now figuring it out. James looks a bit tense at that, and Steve frowns, starting to move toward them. “Do you know how many memes I’ve shared about your hair?!”
He relaxes at that, actually smirking a bit. “And you still didn’t recognize me until now? I’m wounded,” James says.
“To be fair, you’re wearing a lot of eyeliner,” Darcy says. “And I’ve just been through a very traumatizing situation, so.” She says it with a heavy dose of haughty sarcasm so he knows she’s not overly serious.
“Uh huh,” James says, but he’s smirking. Steve still looks a bit wary as he sits down next to James, but not like he’s going to step in. Good, she’d hate to be lectured by the symbol of American freedom. “These better be complimentary memes.”
