He scratched the back of his neck. “Would it be weird if I asked for your number? Just… you seem like someone I’d like to know.”
Ruby didn’t answer.
She just looked at him. Like maybe, if she stared hard enough, she’d see the seams in the wish. The cracks in the new paint.

She freezes.
