Summary
“Niklaus wasted his favor.” Gillion said dully. “Because if it happened again, if I had to do it all over, I’d do the same thing.”
“What was the choice, Gil?” Chip asked, urgency and dread pouring into his voice, pulling it down. “Why did you look at me?”*****
Gillion gave up everything for Chip. He and Chip talk about it.

Summary
Jay traces her steps back to the ponds after her talk with Lizzie. Her blanket is wrapped tightly around her shoulders, cutting out the cold. Every step feels like flames licking up her bad leg by this point in the day — especially after sparring, or trying to, with Lizzie — and she limps her way there, lip bitten in pain. There's tear tracks on her cheeks, leaving her face feeling tight.
She's tired, at least emotionally.
Before she knows it she's back in front of her sister's grave, ribbon flitting softly in the night breeze. It looks pretty.
OR Jay went back to Ava's grave that night. Here's what I'd like to add to it.

Summary
“What’s your favorite color?”
Gillion doesn’t have to think too hard about that one. “Brown.” He thinks about the first thing he saw when he breached the surface, something that wasn’t blue or purple or green or the infinite shades of black- Something different. Something that creaked and swayed on waves he didn’t know had such a shape and floating on water that has never glimmered like that before. When he thinks of brown, he first thinks of that ship.

Summary
“Your little friend’s got a hit placed on him by the most powerful man in Allport.” The man tightens his grip, crushing Chip’s lithe wrists under the palms of his hands. “Musta’ done something real stupid to get Captain Price after your head.”
Captain Price.
Chip’s breath catches inside his throat.
It’s not that he’s surprised, not really. There’s always been a part of Chip — deep in his ribcage — which knew this was coming. Of course his freedom was temporary, a brief interjection in some kind of never ending nightmare. Chip’s not ready, though — he’ll never be ready, not when his organs are dust and his crew is nothing more than a fable — so it can’t be true.
He won’t let it be true.
Chip never intends to tell anyone about his brother, not with a gun to his head. Unfortunately, the world has other plans.
