Summary
The longer he journeys, the more he realises the elders are wrong. Magic isn’t so scary when everyone else uses it, and it’s rarely been deadly— even after magic turned weird. Despite their warnings, he didn’t die after casting Robin’s Magic Tube, and no one has berated him or turned on him for suddenly having that power. If anything, it’s brought him clarity. It’s not the power that makes Morven so frightening. It’s her no-nonsense approach and her blatant disregard for his health and wellbeing, one that could endanger the people he’s accidentally befriended.
That fact’s true of Willowfine especially. All her magic is warm and calming, and it’s got this yellow-green-gold sort of undercurrent to it, one that reminds him of the leadup to harvest season where the shoots are plentiful and food is no longer a luxury. Sometimes the foolish part of him imagines nicking a finger against some gnarled tree just to feel her cradle his hand in hers and heal him with this cotton-like softness in her gaze, but he doesn’t have to. She always seems to glow, even without the magic, so strong and kind and… beautiful.
