Summary
As Jon walked closer to the storage room door he heard Martin giggling? No, that can’t be right. He also heard Martin talking to what he assumed to be himself but couldn’t quite make out what he was saying.
When he opened the door he paused at the scene in front of him. Martin was sitting on the floor smiling and giggling at a small white creature in front of him.
That small creature was a cat.

ORMartin finds a small cat on the streets and brings it into the archives. Wholesome interactions between the cat and archival staff ensue.

"Come on, you've been going out for a month now, it's time to spill the beans," Tim says. "What's Jon really like, once you pry him away from that office of his?"
Martin laughs, and opts for the most ridiculous response he can think of. "What, do you want me to tell you about all his secret tattoos, or something?"
Tim's eyes bug out of his head.
"He has tattoos?"

"It is often a matter of debate, ...human nature... A fragment of the ever expandable universe. Between blankets of space and time, who's to say what is to exist at a certain time, in a specific space. Or in the same space at a different time? The same time but in a different space?
Human nature, then, can often be interpreted as a maleable construct of influence. Actions and changes that took place at different times in different places. But for us humans, that's all abstract existential talk. Down on earth we regard these concepts with simple 'what if' 's.
So what if.What if a different pair of hands shaped the nature of the beholder of the beast?
Not a dog....but a rat."
